Community Reconciliation

Supporting and encouraging traditional grassroots peacemaking in
Voinjama City and strategically located surrounding villages.

  • Supporting intensive reconciliation meetings prior to the Mourning Feasts so that the community's conflicts can be laid to rest with the dead
  • Supporting the first joint Mandingo-Lorma Peace (Palaver) Hut, where gatherings are now held regularly to discuss conflicts as they arise
  • Meetings and consultations in Voinjama area with elders, opinion leaders, ex-combatants, women, and local govt. officials
  • Visits to more than 12 villages, observing traditional protocol, walking village to village, exchanging gifts, briefing and mediating, gathering representatives to accompany the team to the next villages.
  • More than six consultations held with groups of dreamers, zoes, women, hunters, farmers, religious leaders and ex-combatants
